FONIX Telecoil/Earphone Adapterfor the 6500, 6500-C, and 6500-CX
This special purpose, custom adapter for the FONIX 6500 Hearing Aid Test System provides expanded measurement capability in two ways. It tests telecoil function at source levels of 1, 10, 100, and 200 mA/M and it tests earphones at a choice of impedances. The telecoil function of a hearing aid is usually tested at 10 mA/M. However, some FONIX users want more information. When this adapter is attached to the FONIX 6500, the frequency response of the telecoil, at the chosen source level, can be displayed on the monitor. The earphone testing function of the adapter is especially useful in parts of the world where "body" aids are widely used. Electrical power of 1mW (within 2 dB) and proper termination is provided for five different earphone impedances. If only one adapter is ordered, the following impedances are provided: 68, 100, 220, 330, and 470 Ohms. If multiple units are ordered, different impedances, within the range of 50 to 500 Ohms, can be chosen. The telecoil and earphone measurements are independent and not intended to be carried out simultaneously. In order to display the proper scale for telecoil measurements, software version 2.63 or above must be installed on the 6500 and some modifications must be made to the Input/Output board. (These modifications will be installed at the factory if the adapter is purchased with a new unit.)
Description Module: 3.75" x 7.25" x 1" (9.19 x 17.76 x 2.45 cm) Available in 90-120 VAC and 220-240 VAC (Allow extra time for ordering 220 VAC units.) Three controls: two switches and a calibration adjustment. The switch labeled "Ohms" selects the proper earphone termination and provides 1mW of power into the earphone under test. The switch labeled mA/Meter selects the source output level for telecoil measurements. The adapter may be left connected at all times to the 6500 and the sound chamber since controls can be set for normal operation of the 6500. Standard Accessories:
