The Fonix Screen Capture Program FCapture.exe provides a convient
way to capture the currently displayed screen on a Fonix
insturment. This can be useful for publishing the results of a
test performed on a Fonix instrument because you will get a
digital copy of the screen rather than having to try to scan in a
copy of the printout.

1. Start the Program:

To use the program, connect the instrument to the computer with
an USB or RS232 cable. Run the FCapture.exe program. Select the
Com port you are using, or use AUTO SEEK if you don't know.

2. Click on Get Image:

When you are ready to capture the Screen image from the Fonix
instrument, click the mouse on the Get Image button. Note: at
9600 baud the screen capture can take up to 15 seconds to be
transferred (depending on how big the screen image is).

3. Click in Save Image:

Once the image has been transferred, you can save it by clicking
on the Save Image button. Select the directory location where
you want to save the file, and enter the filename you want to
use, then click on save. The file will be saved as a Windows
BMP file.

Quit button:

When you are done using the program, click on the Quit button at
the bottom left corner to end the program.

Print Image Button:

The Print Image button can be used to send the image directly to
a printer instead of saving it to a BMP file.

Options:

Frame checkbox:

By default, a frame will be placed around the captured image so
that you will know where the bounderies of the image are. If you
do not want the frame to appear, uncheck the Frame check box in
the top left corner of the screen.

Keep Alive checkbox:

The Keep Alive check box will keep the com port connection alive
as long as the FCapture program is running. This allows the
screen captures to go slightly faster as the program doesn't have
to re-open the com port each time you click on the Get Image
button. Leaving the box unchecked slows the program down slightly,
but allows other programs access to the com port while the
FCapture program is running but isn't using the com port.

Notes:

For faster screen downloads, you can change the baudrate
to a faster (larger number) selection in the instrument's Main
Default Configuration menu by pressing the Menu key from the
power-on opening screen. The faster the baudrate setting, the
faster the screen will be transferred to the computer.

The FP40 and 6500 do not support the ability to capture
the screen.

History:

V1.30 and prior - History not tracked.
Program primarily used for internal use at Frye Electronics.

V1.40 - Corrected problem with XP systems displaying a blank
image when capturing screen. Caused by problem with monochrome
screen bitmaps under XP. Switched to color screen bitmaps
using just black and white colors, than tranlating to
monochrome BMP file.
Also Corrected problem with program not being able to communicate
With the attached instrument after two minutes of no activity.
The two minute lockup detection timer was treating any idle
activity (even if there were no commands sent) as a timeout
situation. Corrected time to only be active while an RS232
command is in process.

V1.50 - fixes limited com port problem - improved automatic
connection - user no longer needs to know the com port or baudrate.

V2.00 - Added color support for Fonix 8000.

V2.01 - Added ability to look for FryeCom.dll in case Fryers32.dll
doesn't exist.

V2.10 - Updated for for Windows 7 compatibility issues.
