                                                   10/04/93 -med

This disk is primarily aimed at programmers and other technical
people. The files on this disk are organized into several
sub-directories, these are:

FIPP -- Documentation on FIPP, the Frye Instrument Packet Protocol.
Including documentation files on the commands for the 6500/6400
instruments and the FP40.

FRYERS -- The Frye RS232 device driver and its documentation.
For programmer's who wish to write their own programs to
communicate with Frye instruments.

TEST -- Program and source to a Pascal program to test
the FIPP commands on the 6500/6400 and FP40.

TROUBLE -- Trouble configuring your system? This directory
contains programs and documentation to help you find and
solve the problem.

BATCH -- Program and source to a Pascal program to send FIPP
commands from within a batch program. It is possible to initialize
the instrument and do limited data collection with the batch program.

SAMPLES -- Some general sample programs with source which talk
to an instrument using the FIPP protocol with Pascal, 'C', BASIC,
and 8086 assembly language.

C -- Program and source to a 'C' language program that runs under
MSDOS and SCO Xenix to communicate with the 6500 or 6400.

INSTALL -- Installation instructions to install the RS232 option.

Note: The Source files have been packed to save disk space.
You can find the UNPACK program in the INSTALL directory.

An INSTALL batch program has been provided to install all the
files on your harddisk. To run the install program, make the
floppy drive with this disk the current drive (ie enter A:).
Then enter the command "INSTALL C" where "C" can be any hard
drive designation where you want the files to go. The install
program will create a directory called "FONIX" in the root
directory of that drive and install the files from the floppy
into that directory.

Note: this will take a while. There are a lot of files to be
copied to the hard disk.
