How To Use the ColCal Program
   6 Feb 2013

Copy the files to your local directory.

You must include the *.RETSPL files in the same directory as the
ColtCal.exe file. The *.RETSPL files define the various
calibration parameters for each of the transducers.

Run the ColtCal program.

Click on the Connect button to connect to the Colt base unit.

Click on the panel just above the "Left Phone" sub-title
This will bring up the calibration information block for the
Left Earphone.

Click on the Default button to get started, or just change
the fields to what they should be.
Click on Done when you are finished.

You must have at least
Cal Date, Device ID and Transducer fields specified.
If you click the Default button, they will be filled in for you.
You should also enter the Device (transducer) serial number and
your name in the provided fields.

There are a bunch of numbers in the grid arrangment below
the "Left Phone" sub-title (as well as the other sub-titles).

Single clicking on the number will set the Colt to that freqency
and select the Left Earphone (or whatever transducer is used
with the selected grid column).

To change the calibration, double click on the number in the grid.
A small dialog box will appear with the current correction
being applied. To change the value, either click on the Increase
or the Decrease button. You can also just enter a new value
in the correction field if you wish. Click on the Target button
to the right of the correction field to update the calibration
(or just press the return key on the keyboard).
When done, click on the Done button and the Dialog box will
go away.

When you calibrate the Speech selection, an additional box will
popup first to calibrate the VU meter circuit. This requires
that a stereo 3.5mm patch cable be connected between the monitor
output and the external input jack. This provides the 0VU
reference signal needed for the clibration. By default the
AutoCal VU checkbox is checked so that the VU calibration
happens automatically. When the VU meter shows 0VU
you can click on the Done button to advance to the
speech calibration dialog box. (Leave the patch cable connected
since it is providing the calibrated 1KHz signal for the speech
calibration.) Click on the Done button when you are finished.

When you are done calibrating, click on the Save to NVS button.
If you don't click on it, the calibration will not be saved to
the base unit. You can click on the Save to NVS button at any
point in the calibration work to save the calibration made up to
that point. (A useful feature if you are interrupted.)
