We’re celebrating our first anniversary with the new President of Frye Electronics, Inc., Dr. Gail Linn
Dr. Gail Linn has worked in the profession of audiology for more than 40 years, beginning her career in 1984. She started in Iowa and later relocated to Washington, D.C., where she founded Potomac Audiology in 1997.
While building her private practice in Washington, DC, Dr. Linn served at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as Director of Private Practice and Industry from 2001 to 2004.
During her tenure at ASHA, she represented the audiology profession on several national committees, including the ANSI Committee for Compatibility of Hearing Aids and Cell Phones and an FCC Committee responsible for revising standards for the rating of hearing protection.
Dr. Linn’s experience with Real Ear Measurement technology began in 1991 while practicing in Iowa. After evaluating both the Verifit and the Frye 6500 systems, she immediately recognized the superior performance of Frye equipment. Although the Frye system carried a higher cost, she chose it to ensure the highest level of care for her patients, beginning what she often describes as her “love affair” with Frye Real Ear Measurements.
Since 1991, Dr. Linn has used Frye equipment daily for hearing aid fittings and follow-up visits, performing measurements approximately ten times per day. Given the early adoption and continuous use of this technology over decades, she believes few clinicians have conducted more real-ear measurements. She considers accurate measurement essential and cannot imagine fitting hearing aids without it.
Approximately two years ago, when Frye Real Ear equipment was temporarily unavailable, her practice evaluated three alternative systems designed to measure hearing aid performance. None met clinical expectations, which ultimately led Dr. Linn to reconnect with George Frye to explore how Real Ear Measurement technology could be revived and advanced.
Potomac Audiology has consistently been recognized as the top audiology practice in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, earning repeated awards from Bethesda Magazine and Washington Checkbook, a highly regarded local consumer rating organization. The practice enjoys strong physician referral relationships, with many doctors identifying Potomac Audiology as the best in the region, a distinction Dr. Linn attributes largely to the consistent use of Frye measurement equipment.
